AI

Joplin 3.7, released in September 2026, brought AI to the desktop app. A chat panel answers questions about the open note and edits it, semantic search runs on the device, and an MCP server lets Claude Desktop or Cursor reach your notes. The model can come from Joplin Cloud AI, your own key, or a local Ollama. AI is off by default, and the chat can’t read encrypted notes.

FixNote’s assistant works across all your notes: it searches by words and by meaning, answers with links, and creates, edits and moves notes. Deleting, or changing more than a few notes at once, always asks first, and any change can be undone in Settings → AI. The model choices are similar: FixNote AI with Pro, your own key, or Ollama. There is also an MCP server with per-folder scope and access levels.

FixNote handles voice on the device as well. Voice notes are transcribed while you speak, and call summaries collect decisions and tasks after a call. Joplin has on-device voice typing only in its Android app, and it doesn’t record calls.

Encryption and sync

Joplin supports end-to-end encryption in all its apps, but you have to turn it on. The master password can’t be recovered, and enabling encryption re-uploads all your notes. You can sync through Joplin Cloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, WebDAV or your own Joplin Server.

In FixNote, encryption is always on, and sync is part of Pro. Keys come from a 12-word phrase, and a new device can be added with a six-digit code shown on one you already use.

How to move your notes from Joplin

In Joplin on your computer, select your notebooks and export them in the MD - Markdown + Front Matter format.
In FixNote, open Settings → Data → Import notes and click Choose folder.
Pick the export folder and click Import.
